Alternate Chronicles Part 1 by ~SpiritNinja66:iconSpiritNinja66:

Alternate chronicles

My eyes tightly closed. Clouded by the darkness of night. I focus my mind as I look far into the pit of my soul. I could feel my mind treading through the hollowed out tunnels. I am restless. I couldn’t not figure out why. My conscious is muddled with useless thoughts, it is no help to me. Now the answer I seek lies in my subconscious. It is dark in here too. Dark as the night. I am troubled. I don’t know what is causing this feeling. It is like some form of balance has shifted in the material world. This mysterious change has awoken a part of me that has slumbered till these very moments.
One single tunnel divides into several. Crisscrossing in and around each other like a labyrinth. This is insane. It will take me forever to submerge past these thoughts. Everything is cluttered I just need to relax and clear my mind. These pestering thoughts from the reality I live.
I breathe deeply, temporarily pushing everything out of my mind. I exhale and more memories disperse for the moment. I concentrate on the tunnels and the darkness as I fumble through. The maze morphs as my conscious fades. I drift more to the back of my mind that is where my soul should show its form.
The tunnel becomes a single straight path into the depths of the unknown. At the end is the essence of my personality, my dreams, my very being. Slowly dragging though. I am able to see an eerie dark green light blazing at the end. I pick up pace. The tunnel ends. I come to a stop and peer into the massive cavern. Blazing green tendrils glow brightly. Like green lightening striking the walls of the cavern in every direction. I stare into the tendrils. Something was hidden deep within this weird aura. I felt my body lift out of the tunnel, drawn toward the object in the center of chaos. The lightening phases through my artificial body as I close in.
Through all the aura, I could now see the eye of this storm. It...it was me. My fifteen year old body hovering asleep while exerting this mysterious force. This body is my soul. This aura originates from myself? What on earth is this?
My eyes flew open. I was breathing heavily. My hands shook with fear. Something has changed. Everything feels so different. I turned on the light in my room and sat over by my desk. I looked out at the billions of stars to ease my mind, but it only made me feel small. I looked out at the street level. Dozens of houses line the other side. Some hidden behind lush green trees.
A dark figure moved in the night. Slowly and quietly. He wears a hooded jacket. I can sense him staring in my direction. His face hidden by the shadows. I don’t know who that is, but I have a bad feeling about him. Somehow he knew of the disruptions in my soul. I knew he saw what I still see. It was like he tapped into my mind from across the street. Things are starting to get weird.
I went back to bed and tried to ignore everything. Maybe this is just a weird dream. Maybe when I wake up I will forget all about this. My eyes shut and I was thrust back into my dreams. Still I can feel that disturbing green light pulsing around my soul. None of this makes sense, but I am sure I will have my answers soon enough.

Restless. I feel so uneasy. Everything around me is so calm. Everyone in this high school is so relaxed or busy studying for exams. Still my mind is plagued. Since that night I saw those green flashing lights nothing has been the same. I have lost numerous nights of sleep. I could easily fall asleep, it is what happens in my sleep that frightens me.
Not a drop of rest. Every time my eyes close I can hear blood curling screams.  Every time I blink I can see lifeless corpses torn to bits. It is always raining in my sleep. Water always washing the blood away. Fang marks across the victims body. Then you hear it. Deep heavy barking. Loud howls from demonic beasts. I can’t see them but I know their eyes are piercing through me, but they don’t attack. These strange beasts cant attack. I can’t see them, but they fear me. I can feel that dark green aura tearing out of my chest setting me on fire. This fire is calm and collected. It does not hurt me, but those beasts are afraid of it.

I sat in my last class for the day. English. Mr. Ross is so boring. He lectures on and on about some book I haven’t bothered to read. The first chapter killed the whole book. The author doesn’t even want the reader to keep attention to the main story. I had a feeling Mr. Ross wrote this book as a torture device for his classes and is secretly bragging how it was published. Thursdays are always so annoying.
I began scribbling in my notebook. Random thoughts, even sketches of creatures. I wasn’t good at it but It was better than falling asleep on my desk like some people.
I looked to my right. My friend Don lay face down on his desk. His eyes closed. He was in a deep sleep. His dark hair was close to covering his eyes completely. I then looked to my left. My friend Marcus sat curiously staring at his notebook. His face was serious. His hair was also dark but cut short. He also was growing a beard he trimmed regularly. His glasses rested on the brim of his nose. Was he really thinking about What Mr. Ross was yammering on about? I glanced over to his note book and realized it was a sketch pad. His real note book was hidden deep beneath his sketch book. At least I wasn’t the only one not paying attention.
I looked at my notes. I noticed in my pictures something strange. If I tilt my book in a certain way the drawings create a series of words. All across the page. I didn’t understand. I did this work but I don’t remember writing these words. I looked deeply into the sketches. The words made a sentence. It was a question. Even the question mark could be seen at the end of it all. I read out loud.
“What would you do if you had superpowers?” I whispered to myself. I felt a few heads turn, their eyes piercing my back. What on earth does this mean? Why did I write it? I noticed Don stir from his slumber. He head forced up. His eyes out of focus. His hair was a mess. He was completely disoriented.
“I would rob a bank. It would be awesome.” He said rather loud. I guess he heard me read the question. Just when his eyes was about beginning to focus properly he fell face foreword onto his desk and was of to his own world again. I heard Marcus Clear his throat. I looked in his direction.
“Well, I think it really depends on the type of power. Now if I could control-” Marcus replied before he was cut off.
“Interesting conversation Ken?” A cold heartless voice called out behind me. I quickly looked back to see Ross Fleck. It was a semi bald headed man. His skin was incredibly pale. His dull grey eyes looking sharply at me. His black suit was lightly powdered in chalk dust. My last class is always killer.
“Much more interesting than that boring book you lecture forever about.” I could see his fingers tightened on the hardcover of the book. It appeared that he was drawing some sort of power from the book.
“I really believe you are pushing your luck Mr Siren.” He said in a cool and calm manner. He used my last name. I hate me last name. The name of this cursed city is my last name and he used it!
“What did you call me!” I quickly stood up. I glared at him with a hate like no other.
“Mr. Siren, I truly believe you should take your seat before I persuade the principal to kick you out of this school.” A dark smile leaked out across my face. Mr. Ross stepped back in fear. I tore the book out of his hand.
“You make us read this crap book then go on about how much power you have? First, my theory is that this book is the story of your pathetic life.” I pulled the book back as to hit the teacher across his face with his own work. “Do you really think you have the guts to get me kicked out of this school when I never even hit you?” I held the book out towards him. He reluctantly took it back. His eyes watered. His hand shook a bit. I realize it wasn’t fear. He was going to speak again.
“You know what Ken?”
“Yeah Mr Ross. It is time to go. I pointed my index finger up in the air and a loud school bell rang. The class stirred. Ross looked around at the students rustling. As he turned back to talk to me it was to late. I grabbed my back pack and note book. Leaping over my desk, slowly I left through the ugly lime green metallic door.
I was out side the school before Don and Marcus. I waited across the street in view of the whole school. Hundreds of high school students flooded out of the building. I waited a while. About fifteen minutes later most of the crowed had walked away heading home. I saw Marcus leave the school. He headed towards me. He crossed the street and said.
“Man, I couldn’t believe you had Ross on the verge of tears. I think you broke him.”
“That is what happens. I warned him never to use my last name. Everyone knows how mad I get.” I said, still angry at Ross. “Where is Don?” I asked.
“I don’t know. I left him asleep in the class room. I tried to wake him but he only mumbled about getting to work. He might get fired if he misses work again.”
“What the hell!” A voice boomed from the school. We looked in the direction of the loud voice. I could see a figure with a strong build climbing out of a window.
“Hey Mar, Do you see that person climbing out of the window?”
“Yep.”
“I think it is Don.”
“Yep”
“I wonder if he would have done that if it wasn’t the first floor, and higher up?” I asked.
“Wow. Knowing him, He probably would.” We kept looking as Don fell to the ground out of a first floor window. When he regained his composure he slowly walked towards us.
“Real messed up guys. Some friends!” He howled angrily.
“I created a bit of a mess and I had to make a quick get away.” I said while laughing in myself.
“I tried to wake ya but nothing.” Said mar flipping through his sketch book.
“Lets just go. I have to get to work soon.” Don said looking at his cell phone for the time. They both began heading up the block. I froze for a second. I could feel it. A cold dark stare. Someone is watching me. I looked back at the school. I should see a persons shadowy figure facing my direction, looking at me. It felt numb. I didn’t understand. I tried to move but I felt completely paralyzed. My eyes blinked quickly. I felt that green aura again. It was spiking further than before. I felt the paralysis ease and I was able to move again.
“What is this?” I was frightened. I didn’t understand what was going on. My hands felt cold.
“Ken did you forget something?” Don questioned from half a block away.
“N-no.” I stammered and ran after them.

We walked quietly through the city quietly. We had nothing to say. Cars zoomed past us. Giant buildings every where. We past the tallest building in the city. Siren tower. It was massive in size. Grey stone with a gold outline. Looking up it felt as if it pierced the sky.
“I can’t believe how advanced this city is for just being a small island in the middle of the ocean.” Marcus said as I continued to gaze up.
“Careful Ken. The fear of heights you have can mess with you if you keep looking at the height of the tower.” Don said.
“This Island sure is weird. So isolated from the world, but so powerful at the same time.” I said looking past the city into the suburbs not to far in the distance.
“Sometimes it snows, but only in the city. The suburbs are always 80 degrees plus.” Marcus said while looking up hoping for snow. I began to think about my weird dream from the past few nights. I grew curious at what the others might say if I mentioned it.
“I’ve been having this weird dream that wont go away. Every night I can feel my self digging through my mind. Every time I reach the center everything is filled with this weird green energy. It is so creepy. It is scary, it feels dangerous. Still I feel pulled toward it. It feels normal. It makes me feel so strong, but I have no control at all.
“Zombies are always in my dreams. I always defeat them easily.” Marcus said while pretending he was holding a hand gun while aiming at invisible targets.
“My life is my dream.” Don said cooly. I didn’t say anything but I realize this was the most I have talked with them since last week. Lately we have all been busy with school work. The days drag on so slowly now. I Can feel the summer weather start to build. School is going to end soon. I will be stuck home, bored and useless for two months.
“I need to ask you guys to go on an adventure with me this summer.” I said looking back at the two.
“What kind of adventure?” Marcus questioned.
“I am not sure yet, But it has to be big.” I said gesturing my hands in a big circle.”
“I am game.” Don said nodding his head slightly. “I need an excuse to get out of work for a bit.
“I’ve got nothing better to do at the moment. Lets just hope no one gets hurt.” Marcus said.
We kept walking for a while talking about the latest comic books we all read, but we were disturbed. A loud screeching sound echoes in the warm air. It sounded like a freight train suddenly stopping, but it was far worst. The sound of shattering glass followed. Like a chain reaction. The glass exploded from one building to the next. The clashing noise began to give me a head ache. I clutched my head tightly with my arms. My body shook violently. I could feel the green lights again beaming in my head. I had a slight control. The aura was held back for now.
I couldn’t do anything. I was pulled to the ground. The screeching sound blasted again. Glass began to fall on my back as I lay on the pavement. I could hear people running and screaming.
“What is this?” I yelled over the noise.
“Nothing, just a steam pipe line going crazy underground.” Marcus said.
“Get home Ken we will see you in school tomorrow.” Don said. I didn’t argue. I got up and began running. I turned back to see if Don and Marcus was still behind me. They weren’t. They vanished in the air. I looked around the area and nothing. I heard another screech. The buildings were being torn apart by some invisible force. Debris fell to the street below. People ran faster in fear of concrete falling on them. I turned and took off. They probably ran away out of sight, I tried to convince my self. I kept running till I got Far from the city into the suburban part of town where my home was. Away from the city.
It was quiet here. I walked through the streets lined with similar houses and giant palm trees swaying gently in the evening wind. I pulled out my cell phone and called Don and Marcus but there was no answer from either phones. I then called a work number stored in my cell. A woman’s voice was on the other line. Her tone was a calm and relaxed. It was my cousin May’s voice. At this point she is my current guardian.
It all happened a few years back. I vaguely recall all the details. One night their was a terrible storm. Lightening tore up the streets and set ablaze the streets. My parents house was set ablaze. Somehow I managed to get out, but not my mom and dad. The odd part was their bodies were never found. They just disappeared. My cousin May was my only living relative. I was immediately placed in her care. She was more of a fried than a guardian. She was just about thirty now. A full time job in Siren tower. She never discusses her job.
I was almost home. I could see the sun setting slowly. The stars began to mask the sky. I lost focus and was heading home without paying attention anymore. I hear foot steps. Loud and quick paced. Someone grabbed my from my shoulder. I was pulled to a stop. I turned around. Their was a hooded man. I would only see his lips and light colored skin.
“It is you!” I exclaimed while pointing a finger at them man. “you are the one following me around all the time. Always keeping to the shadow. Who do you think you are?”
“Silence!” He yelled commanding perfect obedience from me. “I am Kevin. I am a Seeker.”
“Seeker? The frick is that? Some kind of weird picking people off randomly in the streets?”
“Shut up kid and just listen you idiot!” I was silenced again. “Danger lurks close to you. Be wary. Watch who you talk with. Your life will not longer be the same. Now take this.” He handed me a sheet of paper. It was blank on both sides.
“What is this?”
“Give it to your principal. He will see the words on it. Tomorrow will be the last day of school for you. Summer begins early.” He turned away and took off into the sun set. Tomorrow is the last day of school for me? It is only April. The last day. I wonder if something interesting is going to happen tomorrow. The bright sun falls behind the horizon. Everything fades away like a distant dream.

Anger ruins joy. Steals the goodness of my mind. Forces my mouth to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind. Leads to a mind without regrets. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.
